The 1950's............
Often seen as age of conformity and many rules, it was also a time of big change that was heavily influenced by kids in the 1940s. This was a time when the term teenager started to be used to describe the youth who began to see themselves as a separate group. This carefree generation is referred to as the "Luckiest Generation" because of the choices they had and safety that many grew up with. Rock and Roll music and Elvis's swinging hips heavily influenced kids, though most of their parents did not understand the music and were outraged by many of the lyrics. Drive in movies were a popular date destination! Poodle skirts and milk shakes were common place. The 50's also brought about many useful changes, such as credit cards, barcodes, Barbie dolls, Mr. Potato Head, hula hoops, super glue and McDonald's. |
