The 1980's...................
This was a goofy decade full of big hair, bright and bold makeup. The tearing down of the Berlin Wall gave hope for a better tomorrow. Kids waited for their favorite songs on the radio, created mixed tapes, MTV played music all day long and kids could imitate Michael Jackson's break dancing. Teens in the 1980's exchanged notes written on paper during and between classes, expressing their deep thoughts. Popular items of the time included Walkman's, Members only jackets, leg warmers, spandex, shoulder pads, parachute pants acid washed jeans, jelly shoes, slogan t-shirts Air Jordan's, Garbage Pail Kids stickers, Trapper Keeper, Rubik's Cube, Merlin, Atari, scratch & sniff stickers, Cabbage Patch dolls, Slap bracelets, Big League Chew, boom boxes, Baby Sitters Club books and the Oregon Trail computer game. Commercial like Where's the Beef and the Nair commercial jingle were among the favorites on TV. Movies with relatable teen characters like those in Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, and The Breakfast Club covered the screen. The "Just Say No" Campaign made passing on drugs and alcohol cool. It was a totally awesome time to be a kid! |
