To kick off the decade teens were sent home on March 19 as the US went into lock down due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. While they adjusted to online learning and found ways to connect with one another, most longed to return the the "new normal". Tik Tok rose to the top of the social media totem pole and many educators took advantage of this way to teach and reach students. President Trump even called for a ban on Tik Tok, which had Gen Z on on the edge of their seats. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake and many others sparked nation wide protests like "Black Lives Matter" and "All Lives Matter." LGTBQ+ members were added as protected citizens under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Classes returned to session in the fall of 2021 with most districts offering hybrid and online learning options. Vaccines for adults followed by those for kids 5-17 and the anticipated approval of a vaccine for children under 5. |
